Visual Passes

I created these visual passes on an iPad app for a student with ASD who demonstrated very challenging behaviour by leaving the classroom whenever he desired. In effect, he was not participating in classroom activities, and his safety was at risk as he was not in the care of a school staff member when he left.  In order to address the issue passes were created. The passes reinforced the expectation that the student needed the pass to leave the classroom and without the pass he needed to remain in class. The desired outcome was that the student would ask a teacher for a pass to leave the classroom. When the student had a pass it allowed other staff members in the school to monitor whether or not he was where he was supposed to be and whether he had gained permission. Without a pass a communicated common script was to be used “You are a year 3 student and belong in the year 3 classroom. Please return to your classroom.” Continue reading Visual Passes
